Volunteers of America Oregon is seeking a Human Resources Specialist to join our team. This position works closely with the HR Director and coordinates the administration of all benefit programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, EAP, and 403(b) retirement plan. The HR Specialist coordinates, tracks, and process all employee leaves, including, but not limited to, FMLA, OFLA, Oregon Sick Leave, and unpaid leave, as well as emergency paid leave under the FFCRA. The HR Specialist works as an integral member of the HR team to assist with new hire orientations, and employee recognition, file and data maintenance and reporting, and to plan, organize and administer all human resource functions for Volunteers of America Oregon.

Benefits package includes medical, dental and vision insurance, life insurance, short and long-term disability insurance, 403(b) with automatic 5.5% contribution after 18-months regardless of employee participation, flexible spending account, employee assistance program, and other voluntary benefits and discounts. Generous paid time off plan includes 15 days in the first year, 23 days in the second year, and 26 days in the third year.

Education, Training and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required, with relevant college coursework preferred.
  • Three years of relevant experience, preferably in employee benefits administration.
  • Minimum one year of experience applying the principals and practices of FLSA, ADAAA, FMLA, OFLA, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, and other federal, state, and local laws related to employment.
  • Minimum one year of experience with HRIS platforms; good understanding of and the ability to use HRIS reporting functions during business analysis.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Adobe Acrobat and basic office equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain record keeping systems including confidential personnel files and demonstrated knowledge of document retention requirements and best practices.
  • Non-profit experience a plus.

  • Strong mathematical abilities including addition, subtraction, multiplication and percentages.
  • Excellent customer service skills required.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Time and organizational abilities to manage multiple interruptions and complete projects accurately.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders.

  • Reliable form of transportation.

Work Environment: This position typically works in an office environment. Due to COVID-19, this position is currently working remote, with the possibility of returning to the office environment, full-time, or alternating office and remote work. This is based on operational needs and guidance from State and local officials.

Schedule: This is a full-time position; Monday thru Friday, 40 hours per week, generally from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Additional hours may occasionally be needed to meet deadlines.
