Our Labor Relations Specialist position is a both a strategic and hands-on role. It will require the ability to handle multiple priorities, engage with our business partners and lead change.

You will provide guidance to management and staff in the interpretation of and adherence to human resource policies, collective bargaining agreements, and state and federal laws. Also you will investigate employee complaints and provide guidance on resolution, coordinate grievance procedures, provide support during union contract negotiations, arbitrations and mediations.

 

Responsibilities

  • Act as liaison and counsel for employees and Management to assist with Human Resource related issues and to promote good working relationships, consistency and high morale
  • Provide day to day counsel and support to Management to ensure consistent application and interpretation of Daimler Trucks personnel policies, the collective bargaining agreement, and state labor requirements
  • Interpret and administer company EEO, AAP and FMLA programs. Conduct training, collect data and perform plant reporting as required. Participate in handling of employee EEO/AAP and FMLA concerns
  • Administer the shop bid process, job transfers, layoff and recall of employees consistent with labor agreement requirements. Assist with recruitment of staff
  • Coordinate manpower movement (ramp up/layoff) to ensure correct labor loading to meet production requirements
  • Support HR efforts related to investigations, governmental inquiries/charges, grievance resolution, performance and absence management, complaints of unfair employment practices/discrimination, and disciplinary action
  • Administer disciplinary action for Work Rule violations and Attendance Control Policy
  • Promote and support goals aimed at increasing efficiency and profitability, improving morale and reducing absenteeism
  • Administer the Plant drug and alcohol programs and monitor the last chance agreements
  • Other duties and projects as assigned

 

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience)

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college/university¬†OR 8 years of relevant experience in lieu of degree required
  • Previous labor relations experience is required
  • Knowledge of labor law and regulations
  • Exepreicne with conflict resolution
  • An attached resume is required
Typical Minimum Experience Preferred (Desired Skills/Experience)
  • 5-7 years of related experience preferred
  • Degree focus in HR/Labor Relations
  • At least 1 year of project lead, or mentoring experience
  • 5+ years relevant experience and arbitration case preparation and presentation preferred
  • HR/Labor Relations Degree or SHRM Certification is preferred
