Payroll Specialist

The Payroll Specialist is responsible for ensuring accurate processing and recording of First Tech’s payroll, providing timely and accurate financial information, and participating in daily data entry for payroll processing.   Qualified candidates will have at least 3 years of experience processing multi-state payroll, strong attention to detail and strong interpersonal communication skills.

Here’s what you can expect from the job and what you need to be successful:

Job Duties:

  • Process bi-weekly and incentive/commission payrolls
  • Manage workflow to ensure all payroll transactions are processed accurately and timely
  • Reconcile payroll prior to transmission and validate confirmed reports
  • Understand proper taxation of employer paid benefits
  • Process correct garnishment calculations and compliance
  • Execute time and attendance processing in payroll interface
  • Perform compliances for unclaimed property payroll checks
  • Process accurate and timely year-end reporting when necessary
  • Develop ad hoc financial and operational reporting as needed
  • Process manual and final checks
  • Load incentive files and one-time bonus payments into HRIS
  • Respond to payroll/human resource inquiries from employees
  • Review and approve new hire candidates profile record
  • Quarterly tax reconciliation
  • Monthly accounting reporting
  • Perform timesheet and payroll adjustments accurately
  • Calculate retro pay

Essential Skills:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience processing multi-state payroll (OR experience required, CA and WA preferred)
  • Strong attention to detail with emphasis on accuracy and ability to multi-task with moderate supervision
  • Strong interpersonal (verbal and written) communication skills
  • Decision-making, problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Working knowledge of state and federal laws as they relate to human resources/employment
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS software such as Ultipro
  • Certification/License: PHR/SPHR or CPP preferred
  • Minimum Education:  Bachelor’s degree (preferably in Business Administration or other related fields of study) or equivalent experience
