Training and Development Manager

We are looking for a Training and Development Manager to join our Human Resource team at Hampton Lumber. The Training and Development Manager is responsible for improving the productivity of the organization’s employees. This position assesses company-wide developmental needs to drive training initiatives and identifies and arranges suitable training solutions for employees. This position actively searches, creatively designs and implements effective methods to educate, enhance performance and recognize performance.


  • Create, develop and organize training and development activities across all Hampton locations with a focus on leadership training, career development and required HR training.
  • Source and organize training and development programs for employees using various methodologies and technologies including traditional instructor led in person and virtual classroom delivery, group discussion, simulations, e-learning, short video clips, educational activities, etc.
  • Work with our Continuous Improvement Director to coordinate training activities across all sites.
  • Train and coach managers, supervisors and others involved in employee development efforts.
  • Develop and maintain organizational communications such as intranet boards, training calendars, and newsletters to ensure employees have access to and knowledge of training and development events and resources.
  • Align training and development programs with the desired culture and philosophies of the organization.
  • Coordinate, facilitate and help drive the British Columbia Institute of Technology program (BCIT).   Develop ways in which graduating cohorts can present learned material to the Senior Team.   Help guide the ongoing learning journey of employees who have completed the program. 
  • Maintain records of training and development activities.
  • Ensure all training and development activities enable retention of subject matter and provide growth in determined area of concentration.
  • Conduct annual training and development needs assessment.


  • Excellent organizational and communication skills plus the ability to initiate and handle multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to work with multiple internal customers and team members from varied levels and functional backgrounds.
  • Strong work ethic, sense of commitment, team-oriented, and willingness to embrace change while striving for continuous improvement.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to anticipate opportunities and provide practical solutions given the business environment. 
  • Able to collect and analyze data, then make decisions and design programs based on themes and trends.
  • Maintain high personal and professional standards of focus, attention, and dedication to work.
  • Adept with a variety of multimedia training platforms and methods.
  • Proven customer service track record and excellent verbal & written communication skills.
  • Excellent PC skills using Microsoft products.

Education & Training Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree (business, human resources, learning/development) or a relevant field.
  • Five years or more of experience designing and implementing employee development programs.
  • Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP) credential preferred.
  • Must be willing to travel 35% of the time to local mills/office locations
