When Sick Time, Family Leave, & The ADA Collide:  Common Pitfalls & Strategies for Employer Success

Barran Liebman presents:  When Sick Time, Family Leave, & The ADA Collide:  Common Pitfalls & Strategies for Employer Success

-Presented By Nicole Elgin-

With the overlap between sick time laws, family and medical leave protections, and disability accommodation requirements, managing employee absences is increasingly complicated. All too often, employers struggle with how to distinguish an employee calling in “sick” from a leave of absence covered by state or federal family and medical leave laws. To further complicate matters, employees might be providing enough information during these conversations to require the employer to engage in the ADA’s interactive accommodation process. Employers are often surprised to learn that an employee’s leave request may also be a request for accommodation.

On March 12th, join Nicole Elgin to discuss common pitfalls and advanced strategies for employer success when it comes to employee leave, including:

  • What questions you can lawfully ask when employees call in sick
  • How to identify when an absence could qualify for FMLA protection
  • How to recognize stealthy ADA accommodation requests
  • How to help employees succeed in returning to work after a leave of absence

Designed for HR professionals, business owners, and in-house counsel,
